The Supportive Workers

One day when I was twelve years old, I came home weeping because I had been given a small part in the background of a children’s programme in our parish. I told my mother the reason why I am crying. I know that I could play the role better than my playmate, but she still, the lead role was assigned to her and that really makes me feel very frustrated. I always been in the lead role whenever there is an activity in our school. And because of these, I believe in myself that I would not be given a supporting part in any programme that I would get participated.

My mother just quietly took out her watch and put it in my hands, and then asked me what do I see. I replied that I see a gold case, a face and hands. Afterwards, she opened the back of the case and repeated her question. I answered that I could see tiny wheels and screws. My mother explained that the watch would be no use at all without every part of it – even those part that cannot be seen.

Her little lesson has made me happier all through life. It helps me realized that it does not matter what our role in a play was because the success of it depends on the moral support and active participation of each members.
